Featured SNS Seller: KittyCrossBones!

KittyCrossBones is our First Featured Seller! Whoever is the very first poster in the SNS Promotional thread will become the next featured seller. Congrats to KittyCrossBones! Good luck to all next week! More info here.

Tell us a bit about yourself (name, location, affiliations, personal stuff).
My name is AmyLynn Field, I live in Deep River, CT. I have lived here my entire life. It is a super small town! I am 22 years old and engaged to Marco Silva. He is a DJ and runs Fusion Sound DJ in CT! I am going to Middlesex Community College for my Associates in Science. My major is Digital Arts + Webpage Design.

Apart from creating things, what do you do?
I like to go to the movies with my friends, listen to music. I also love to go bowling!

What first made you want to become an artist?
My whole family is crafty! My Mom (Makeamemory.etsy.com) was always doing arts and crafts projects with me when I was a kid. I remember my Aunt Tammy made me a pink unicorn costume for Halloween when I was little; it was my favorite costume! I took (and still am taking) a lot of art classes in school and just think its so amazing to be able to create things instead of having to go buy them at stores!

Please describe your creative process (how, when, materials, etc.)
Right now I am mainly doing Custom Promotional Products -- so I use the images that people give me like their logos or product pictures. HOWEVER -- I just opened up a knitting shop and will be working on some knitted things in-between going to college and working on orders!

What handmade possession do you most cherish?
I bought one of my favorite necklaces from fantcastle.etsy.com. I wear it all the time!

Name your top five books, movies, songs/musical groups, and websites (Besides Etsy)
Books: (I do not read books--does that make me a bad person?)
Movies: Billy Madison, Elf, and Napoleon Dynamite, Now and Then, Grandmas Boy
Bands: Armor For Sleep, Agony Scene, Blink 182, Paramore, and Soasin
Websites: http://www.homeofthesampler.com/, http://www.alwayssign.com/, http://www.flickr.com/, kawaiigifts.com, and my fiancés http://www.fusionsounddj.com/ :D

What advice would you give to artists who are new to Etsy?
Promote. Promote. Promote! Never give up! Sometimes it takes weeks/months to sell your first thing, but keep making the things you love to do because you just never know! Join in on forum threads that pertain to what you make and visit the chat rooms!

What are your favorite features on Etsy? What new features would you like to see?
My favorite features of Etsy -- forums and chat rooms! I think communicating is key when selling your products! Some new things I'd like to see: a tab under "sold" that says "unshipped" "unpaid" "shipped" "paid" so I don’t have to sort through MONTHS of things when I want to check them off!

How do you promote your work?
I make scratch cards, magnets, and buttons and put together envelopes of goodies to be sent out with each order. I also send in things to The Sampler ; I participate in swaps; I have a profile on Indiepublic.com. I upload pictures to my flickr account and I tell my customers if they refer someone they get a $5 credit to my shop!

In ten years I'd like to be...
Still on Etsy! I would also like to be either in the Advertising or Promotions industry!

I think this is an awesome thing you are doing---especially since the first page of the SNS thread is soooooooo coveted!

Now everyone will be racing that much faster to be the first post.
